Next Game July 18th home vs Cannons

Gents:

Sunday's win was very reassuring after we let it slip away. They had momentum and several chances to win but we hung in there and finally started to hit.

before the recap let me update the schedule for you:

Next Sunday July 18th at 9 am we host the Cannons at the JV field. We will finish the suspended night game ( we are now in top of the 8th leading 8-7) and then play regular 9 inning game

going forward we play them again friday night july 23rd
then sunday the 25th we play the cardinals

we have established our date to play the Mariners (our make up of the second game of the doubleheader where we were missing a lot of guys) on wed night July 28th in Wilton

then we have final regular season games with a doubleheader at home vs Bridgeport brewers , with whom we opened the season.

The way it looks is we can make the top bracket of the playoffs ( top 4 teams) if we keep winning. our schedule is more difficult than the Dodgers or Phillies but i think we are up to the challenge.

Please let us know if you are unable to be there next Sunday.

Game recap:

Tim gets us started by booming an RBI double right center but Trumbull quickly counters and we are tied at 1 goig tot he 4th. We get runners in scoring position but they wriggle out of it as we loft a lazy fly ball to cf
but he has it and drops it and we take 3-1 lead. Flossin' Johnny Pflokin is pitching well for the Titans and takes them thru 7 innings stranding runners in virtually every inning and only allowing the one earned run.
Jim meanwhile is zipping thru with 1-2-3 innings one after another. and we get to the bottom of the ninth.

A bunt single a broken bat single and a walk load the bases and Trumbull is alive. We get two outs then they drive single to right down the first baseline scoring two and tieing the game. Jim battles to get a ground ball to short where Jose fields it cleanly and throws to Roneil and we head to extra innings disappointed not to have closed it out but also relieved it did not get worse.

In extra innings we get men aboard but fail to drive int he go ahead run and we get tot he bottom of the 12th where they load the bases with one out. Time gets a popup he catches himself setting up the bases loaded two outs situation. As Tim goes in the windup their runner breaks for home Charlie sees as does Tim who throws to Charlie who steps in front of the plate blocking the plate in a manner that the Pittsburgh steelers could not get thru and tags the runner out. The runner has still not reached home was not going to get through Charlie.

Charlie of course leads off the 13th and quickly runs the count to 3-2. He gets a fastball and drills it over the shortstops' heads to get us started. Raff and his hammies follow and he eschews the bunt and drops a single to left giving us two on with no outs. Xavier comes to the plate ( with a new haircut defying the Samson edict of strength in his hair) and recalls his winter of hitting where he bunted 2- 4 times a night and gets the sign. We see they are having the third baseman hold and Xavier drops a beautiful bunt that trickles out to third where neither the pitcher not third baseman can get at it and tears are streaming down the cheeks of Titan Faitfull while the Red Sox crowd whoops it up.

We take the lead when the next play results in the first baseman throwing the ball away trying to get the runner at home .Roneil steps up and drills a double in the right field gap breaking the game open. Jose follows with a 2 run single and we lead by 5 and go on to win.

A couple notes: our right fielders Raff and Xavier both made plays in the bushes in right field going where no man has gone in pursuit of outs
. Shawn also worked the crowd trying to catch a foul pop and later was observed seen having drinks with a girl from the sidelines impressed with his prowess.

Special note goes to Charlie who caught all 13 innings in brutal heart and gave them nothing all day ... no stolen bases and called a great game with Jim and Tim. Our catching has been great all year and we have substantially more stolen bases that we have given up which gives us a big edge in games.
Jim threw very well and deserved to win with his breaking ball handcuffing the Titans all day. Tim came in and fired the ball past the Titans and came up huge with men on to keep them shut down when there was no room for error. Roneil seemed to have watched the Lebron decision as he showed off his leaping ability grabbing a floating liner. Bill Bowen has a big day at third with several fine plays including one where he fieleded the ball behind the bag at third and made the long throw to Shawn who stretched out grabbed the ball and got the out.

John Liz got back on the hitting track with a double to right and we look for more of that down the stretch

Tim will pitch as we resume the Cannons game and keep firing for us to get the win.

Let's win 2 Sunday! These are big games for us

In other news i saw where there is a 130 year old woman in Kazhistan or somewhere in that neck of the woods. It seems she is feeling old for her 108 and over league where she says they are too speedy for her now and is looking for a 128 and over league. Reporters have heard of one such league in Mongolia but it seems they go from base to base on horseback and it is a short season.
